MOTHERHOOD WORKSHOPS

VALUES: What do I believe in? What values do I live by?  How do I communicate my values to my children?


DEFINING WHO AM I AS A WOMAN: What does it mean to be a woman in today’s world?  How have my past experiences shaped my view of myself? How have stereotypes affected how I see myself and other women?  What realistic definition of a woman will work best for me?  How must I change and grow to be the man that I want to be?


LIFE SKILLS: How would I evaluate my abilities to communicate, make decisions and manage stress in my life? Do I ever find myself feeling frustrated in conversations with other people?  Do I really take the time to learn from good and bad decisions that I have made?  Do I consider the consequences before acting?  How do I manage stress in my life? What are effective coping strategies in managing stress?


MOTHERHOOD: What are my roles and responsibilities as a mother?  What characteristics does a successful mother have?  Which of these characteristics do I have?  What are some of the obstacles that I need to overcome to be the best mother that I can be?


UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN: How do children develop?  What can they do at different ages?  What do they need from parents to help them develop?  What are the characteristics that I value in my child?  How can I pass on my values to my children?  What special impact do mothers have on the way their children develop?


HELPING CHILDREN LEARN: Can I remember what it’s like to be a small child in a world of adults?  How can I help my child to have high self-esteem? How do children learn?  How can I help my child learn?


FRIEND, MOTHER, PARTNER, DAUGHTER, EMPLOYEE: How can I be what I must be for everyone who needs me?  How can I get my needs met?  How can I communicate effectively with all these different people?  How well are my important relationships working?  What is going well?  What do I want to change?


MANAGING CONFLICT/HANDLING ANGER: What is the difference between anger and violence?  What is my style of dealing with anger?  What happens in my body when I am angry?  How can I find ways to express my anger without hurting myself or other people?


NEGOTIATING YOUR SUPPORT NETWORK – WHO’S ON YOUR SIDE?All parents need help in caring for their children. How can I figure out who’s there for me and how can I make the best use of those people?  Many young mothers find that dealing with their children’s father and family sometimes requires finely timed skills.  How can I work out a relationship with them that is functional and keeps my child out of the middle?


MALE/FEMALE RELATIONSHIPS:What things get in the way of positive relationships with men? What do men want? How do I really feel about men? How do I deal with the men in my life?


EXPLORING MARRIAGE AND COMMITTED RELATIONSHIPS:  What do I know about marriage and committed relationships? What people do I know in a marriage and committed relationships? What are the characteristics of a healthy relationship?  Where is my relationship with my child’s father?


DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: What do I know about the cycles of abuse involved in domestic violence? 


TEAM PARENTING: What skills do I need to build a team oriented relationship between the father(s) of my child/ren and members of my support network? What are the elements of an effective co-parenting relationship? What things can disrupt effective co-parenting relationship?
